After a short business meeting at the CWA rooms, we visited an inspiring garden in Elmslea and were inspired by what has been achieved in a residential block. This is a garden of beauty and of plenty. where interesting ideas have been applied .
Although it was drizzling, no one minded at all. There was such a lot to see. The garden was beautifully established with mature trees and much to attract birds, which it does to the delight of the owners.
Then there was the vegetable area, with an aquaponic system with a tank of goldfish providing the water and nutrients to the wicking beds which were designed gy the owner. At every turn there was something to see, digest and learn, with explanatory notes at strategic places.
The garden is grown using organic methods, companion planting is an important element in the vegetable production, and we were very interested by the compact 4 bay composting system.
And then there was the espaliered orchard in a fully meted enclosure, containing xx fruit trees, thriving and productive.
